White Hot Kiss (The Dark Elements #1)

One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she’s anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she’s crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she’s not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn’t an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she’s the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world   ~~February 27, 2014~~Harlequin Teen~~

~~Thoughts~~

I was lucky enough to have won an ARC copy of this story prior to its publication.

Truth be told, I was hesitant to read this book because I wasn't sure I was going to like it - even with it being written by Jennifer L. Armentrout, who writes books seemingly as easy as breathing. My hesitation was simply because the blurb didn't 'grab' me and the cover gives almost nothing away (which is good in a sense). Even after another author told me that I was going to love this story, there was something that made me wait but those reason elude me now because...

I. Was. Wrong.

So very, very wrong because this book is very, very right. I should have never doubted Jennifer L. Armentrout's ability to weave a tale and undoubtedly leave the reader begging for more that captures romance but also a complex story as well. She doesn't feel the need to create a whole new world in which to set her stories but rather gives us a different view of the current world we live in. Her characters are developed and evolve as the story progresses though not always in the ways in we would anticipate.

This series is as hot (if not more in it's own way) as her Lux Series. Definitely one to check out.
